Short-term rental
How to prepare your Dubai apartment for Airbnb listing photos
1 October 2026
The best Airbnb photo tips start before you pick up a camera. Three things matter: an apartment that is tidy and dressed as if a guest were arriving, the right light, and a set of images that shows every room as it really is. Airbnb's Help Center sums it up: clean, declutter, open the blinds, turn on the lights and shoot in landscape. In Dubai there is one extra challenge: the view. Here is how to prepare the shoot, and what the furnishing changes on screen.

Why preparation beats equipment
In search results your listing is a thumbnail, and guests compare in seconds. What they notice first isn't resolution. It's a well-made bed, a clear floor, pleasant light and one thing that catches the eye.
Photos can't fix a poorly furnished apartment. A unit designed for short-term rental, on the other hand, almost photographs itself. That is one of the four criteria we use for Airbnb furnishing in Dubai: capacity, photos, durability, ease of turnover.
Staging checklist before the shoot
The day before or that morning:
- Clear everything: cables, remotes, cleaning products, bins, bags. Counters should be nearly empty.
- Make the beds hotel-style: crisp white linen, pillows lined up, towels folded or rolled on the bed.
- Set the table: plates, glasses, a touch of green. It shows capacity without saying it.
- Turn on every light, including indirect LEDs and bedside lamps.
- Open the curtains, unless backlight crushes the room (see below).
- Straighten the furniture, clear the floor, check mirror reflections.
- Clean the windows: in Dubai, dusty glazing shows up in every view shot.
Airbnb stresses one point: show guests exactly what they can expect. No props borrowed for the day, no angle that hides a flaw. Over-flattering photos come back in the reviews.
Pick the right light
According to Airbnb, soft natural light gives photos a warm, welcoming tone. It recommends shooting interiors when rooms get the most daylight, and exteriors during the "golden hours": the 60 minutes after sunrise and before sunset.
In Dubai the midday sun is harsh: hard shadows, blown-out windows. For an apartment with full-height glazing, late afternoon is often easier to handle.
Shoot the view without backlight
Burj Khalifa, the marina, the skyline: in Dubai the view is often the apartment's main selling point. The problem is technical. A camera can't expose for both the room and the outside at once. You get either a dark room in front of a great view, or a decent room in front of a white window.
What helps:
- Shoot when light balances: late in the day, the gap between inside and outside narrows.
- Turn on all interior lights to lift the room.
- Use HDR on a recent smartphone, or bracketing (several exposures merged) on a camera.
- Take a dedicated view shot, on top of the room photos.
- Try a night shot if the view lights up: it can make the listing stand out.
How many photos, and in what order?
Airbnb doesn't set a number. It recommends capturing each room and area guests can use, from several perspectives, mixing wide, mid-range and close-up shots. Shoot horizontally: search results display photos in landscape.
An order that works:
- your strongest image (often the living room with the view);
- the main bedroom;
- other living spaces, kitchen, bathroom;
- details: TV wall, linen, tableware, storage;
- the view, and building amenities if guests can use them.
Airbnb also suggests captions to explain what a photo doesn't show, and offers a photo tour that sorts images by room.
What furnishing changes on screen
Some things no framing can fix. They are decided when you furnish:
- One focal point per room: in the living room it is usually the TV wall. A TV wall panelling in wood, marble-effect panel and indirect LED gives your lead photo a subject.
- A consistent palette: white, cream, light wood. Rooms look related from one photo to the next, and the listing feels curated.
- Furniture made to the room's size: floors stay clear, rooms look bigger.
- Sofa and table facing the view, so one frame shows both the room and the skyline.

Airbnb photographer in Dubai or smartphone?
A recent smartphone, a tripod and good preparation give decent results. A real estate photographer brings control of backlight, wide-angle lenses without distortion and consistent editing. For an apartment with a view, the difference shows mostly in the window shots.
Whichever you choose, the rental itself can be handed to BnbSure, our group's short-term rental management agency, which takes over once the apartment is ready.
