Hotel style at home: 10 principles that make a rental apartment stand out

1 October 2026

Wondering how to make an apartment feel like a hotel? It is not about piling up luxury items. It is about a sense of calm and control: soft indirect light, a tight colour palette, a perfectly made bed, nothing lying around, and one strong wall that catches the eye. These codes can be recreated in any apartment, and in a rental they count twice: they show in the listing photos and guests feel them the moment they walk in. Here are the 10 principles behind our Signature style.

What makes an apartment look like a hotel?

When you walk into a great hotel room, you don't study each piece of furniture. You take in the whole: everything has its place, everything matches, and the light is flattering. Three ideas sum it up:

  • coherence: few materials, few colours, echoed from room to room;
  • light: several sources, often indirect, never a single ceiling light;
  • controlled space: clear surfaces, closed storage.

The 10 principles below put those three ideas into practice.

10 hotel style apartment design principles

1. A tight palette

Two or three base tones, one or two dominant materials. Our Signature style combines clean lines, warm wood and marble effects. A short palette makes a space look larger and more upmarket.

2. Indirect lighting

The most visible principle. LEDs hidden behind wall panelling, under a floating unit or in a headboard create soft light that shapes the room. In the evening, the mood changes at the touch of a switch.

3. A light on each side of the bed

In a hotel room, each guest has their own light and socket. Two matching wall lights or lamps on either side of the bed set the tone instantly.

4. One feature wall, only one

The TV wall is the ideal spot: wood slats, a marble-effect panel and LEDs make it the centrepiece of the living room. See our TV wall panelling in wood, marble and LED. One strong wall is enough; keep the others quiet.

5. Symmetry

A centred bed, matching bedside tables, cushions in pairs, aligned wall lights. Symmetry reassures the eye and reads as order, especially in a straight-on photo.

6. Hotel bedding

White or very light linen, a generous duvet, plenty of pillows, towels folded on the bed for arrival. It is the first detail guests look at. Household linen is part of our packages.

7. Hidden storage

In a hotel, nothing is left out. Floor-to-ceiling wardrobes, flat fronts, a closed floating TV unit: everyday items disappear. Storage built to the room's measurements makes this much easier, which is the point of custom-made furniture.

8. Finishes that match

When the bed, the sofa and the TV wall come from the same workshop, woods and tones agree. That is what separates a designed interior from one assembled piece by piece.

9. Fewer, better objects

A plant, a picture, a tray, a few books. Hotel décor is restrained: every object has its place, and empty space is part of the design.

10. Make the most of the view

Many Dubai apartments have a view. Don't hide it: low furniture in front of the window, light sheer curtains, a chair turned towards the glass. For sleep, blackout curtains remain essential.

How to make a bedroom like a hotel

The bedroom is where the hotel feeling is strongest. The essentials:

  • a statement headboard: wood panelling or upholstered, ideally with built-in lighting;
  • a generous bed, well made, with immaculate linen;
  • two symmetrical wall lights and reachable sockets on both sides;
  • blackout curtains: sleep is part of the experience;
  • a closed wardrobe for suitcases and belongings;
  • a mirror to brighten and enlarge the room.

The arrival: what guests notice first

The hotel feeling starts at the door, before guests even reach the living room. The first minute sets their impression of the whole stay.

  • The entrance: a mirror, a hook or console, a spot to put down a suitcase. A cluttered or bare entrance breaks the effect immediately.
  • The lighting on arrival: a warm light that switches on easily, ideally the indirect LEDs of the feature wall.
  • The smell and the temperature: an apartment that is fresh, aired and comfortably cooled.
  • The made bed and folded towels: the first visual proof that the apartment was prepared for them.
  • The bathroom: white towels, clean lines, nothing left from the previous stay.

None of this is expensive. It is about the apartment being designed so that the cleaning team can reset it to the same standard after every stay.

How to make your Airbnb stand out with design

On a booking platform, guests compare thumbnails. A hotel-inspired apartment stands out because it reads in one image: a lit feature wall, a flawless bed, a clear view. A few tips:

  • nail the main photo: the living room with the feature wall, lights on;
  • keep one mood across every room, so the photos tell the story of one apartment;
  • remove personal items and overly themed décor.

We don't promise extra bookings: demand also depends on location, price and management. But a well-designed interior makes sure the décor is never the weak point of your listing. See apartments we have furnished in our projects.

FAQ

FAQ

What makes an apartment feel like a hotel?

A tight palette, indirect lighting, a perfectly made bed, closed storage and one feature wall. It is the whole, more than any single piece, that creates the effect.

What lighting gives a hotel feel?

Several sources rather than one ceiling light: indirect LEDs behind the TV wall or headboard, bedside wall lights, accent lamps. Warm, soft light in the evening.

Do I need a lot of décor?

No. The hotel look is about restraint: a few chosen objects and clear surfaces. Too many items look cluttered and slow down cleaning between stays.

Can I choose a style other than Signature?

Not yet: at launch, we offer one style, Signature, designed for both short-term and long-term rentals.
